Framed oil painting on board signed by Canadian listed artist, R.L. Harvey (Reginald Llewellyn 1888-1973). Titled and dated on verso, "Patricia Bay V.I. 1965".
This mid century Canadian west coast landscape is a nice example of Reginald Llewellyn Harvey and his many talented works of art, painted on canvas artist board and dated 1965 this painting could use a cleaning to bring out the wonderful palette of color used.
Born in Southampton, England, Harvey studied at University College, Southampton under E.A. Conway; at Yarmouth School of Art, Norfolk; and at Regent Street Polytechnic, London. He came to Calgary, Alberta in 1912 where he worked as Supervisor of Art for the Calgary School Board (1922-31). Working in oil, pastel and watercolour, he is best known for his mountain landscapes near Banff, Alberta, and his coastal views in the Gulf Islands, British Columbia. He was manager of the Art Department for the Calgary Exhibition for 20 years, and retired to Victoria in 1951 where he later died. He was a founding member of the ASA and exhibited with the AAM in 1929.
